Move Guest Activity into a DevMeme Account

This is an automated same-browser import. Sign in from the browser that holds your guest activity; DevMeme merges supported records into the account and leaves unsupported local state where it is.

Direct answer

Open DevMeme in the browser that contains your guest activity, then create an account or sign in. After the authenticated return, DevMeme sends only supported local records to the account, merges the server state back into the browser, and refreshes the profile.

Migration status — automated, same-browser guest-to-account import

Prerequisites

  • Stay on the same devme.me origin and browser where you saved or voted.
  • Do not clear site data before the import is complete.
  • Review the Saved collection and one known vote or achievement so you have a validation reference.
  • Keep the browser online through the sign-in return.

DevMeme does not currently provide a guest-state export. Preserving the original browser data until validation is the safe backup for this workflow.

What moves

Valid local bookmarks, supported active model-joke votes, and known achievement unlocks can move. The exact matrix below records how duplicates, conflicts, timestamps, and unsupported local state are handled.

Steps

  1. Open your compact profile.
  2. Confirm that the guest profile shows the local saves or votes you expect.
  3. Select Create free account or Sign in to sync.
  4. Complete one configured sign-in method and return to DevMeme.
  5. Allow the profile to finish the automatic import and server-state refresh.
  6. Reopen the Saved collection and the relevant meme or achievement to validate the result.

The import is additive and deduplicated. It does not replace a conflicting account vote, and it does not manufacture a server record for an invalid or missing meme or model joke.

Expected result

The account-backed profile contains the accepted bookmarks, model-joke votes, and achievement unlocks. The same browser is then hydrated from server state, while viewed history, feed position, appearance preferences, and recent searches remain local.

Validation checklist

  • Every valid guest bookmark you expected appears once in Saved.
  • A supported guest model-joke vote appears when the account had no prior vote.
  • A pre-existing account vote remains unchanged when it conflicts with the browser.
  • Known achievement unlocks remain present, using the earliest valid timestamp.
  • Viewed history, feed position, appearance settings, and recent searches remain local rather than appearing as synced account data.

Unsupported items

Viewed history, feed position, theme and accessibility preferences, recent search preferences, reader comments, and removed or tombstoned activity are not part of this import. DevMeme also does not read activity from another browser, another device, Telegram, Reddit, or a third-party saved-item list.

Recovery

If the network request fails, the local bookmark or vote remains in the original browser. Reconnect and revisit /compact/profile; authenticated session detection and the online retry path can run the import again. Do not clear the original site data until you have verified the account state.

Invalid local identifiers can be rejected during a successful import. If an expected bookmark is absent, first confirm that its meme still has a valid DevMeme record and that you started from the original browser.

Troubleshooting

If the profile returns without imported items, confirm that the sign-in completed, that the browser still contains the guest data, and that you did not switch between devme.me and another origin. Retry only after the network and authenticated session are available.

Privacy handling

The import sends valid local bookmark IDs, supported model-joke vote records, and known achievement unlocks to the authenticated DevMeme account. It does not send browser view history, feed position, appearance preferences, recent searches, or reader-comment drafts as part of this workflow.

For a clean validation item before you start, save Ancient Debugging Wisdom from Confucius, then confirm it appears in the account-backed Saved collection.

Real reader questions

Does this import activity from a different browser or device?
No. The import reads local DevMeme records from the browser in which you sign in. It cannot reach another browser's local storage.
Which vote wins when the browser and account disagree?
The existing account vote wins. The import records the conflict as accepted without replacing the account's earlier choice.
Are duplicate guest bookmarks added twice?
No. Bookmark records are deduplicated by meme ID, and an account bookmark that already exists remains one bookmark.
Are achievement unlock dates preserved?
Known achievements with valid timestamps are merged using the earliest valid unlock time between the local record and the account.
Does guest-to-account import include viewed history?
No. Viewed history and feed position stay local. The import is limited to valid bookmarks, supported active model-joke votes, and known achievement unlocks.
What should I do if the import fails after sign-in?
Keep the original browser data, reconnect, and revisit the compact profile. DevMeme retries authenticated import after session detection and when the browser comes back online.
Can I bulk undo a guest import?
There is no bulk rollback. You can remove individual saves or change individual votes after the merge, so verify the profile before clearing the original browser data.
