The .NET Developer's Domain of Confusion
Description
This is a four-panel meme using the 'Trump Interview with Jonathan Swan' format. In the first panel, a character labeled 'BOSS' (represented by Donald Trump) hands a document to an interviewer labeled '.NET DEVELOPER' (represented by Jonathan Swan). The third panel shows a close-up of the document, which reads, 'CAN YOU DEVELOP .COM AND .ORG SITES TOO?'. The second and fourth panels show the developer's increasingly bewildered and incredulous reaction to the question. The humor arises from the boss's profound misunderstanding of technology. The boss confuses the '.NET' software framework, a technology for building applications, with top-level domains (TLDs) like '.com' and '.org', which are part of a website's address. This question is nonsensical to a developer, as the technology used to build a site is independent of its domain name. It perfectly captures the frustration and comedy of interactions between technically proficient staff and clueless management, a scenario highly relatable to senior engineers

My boss heard we were using Docker and asked if we could containerize his coffee to keep it warm. I'm still not sure if he was joking
Sure - I can build the .com and .org versions; that’s a one-line TLD enum change. The real sprint is teaching management that “domain logic” has nothing to do with GoDaddy
This is the same conversation where they ask if you can make it work on Internet Explorer 6 because "it's more secure since hackers don't target it anymore."
When your manager thinks .NET is a top-level domain and wonders why you can't just 'npm install .com' - a perfect illustration of why technical interviews should include the people who'll actually understand the answers. Next they'll ask if you can develop .io sites since you know I/O operations
Scope creep strikes: 15 years mastering .NET microservices, now 'just whip up a .com site' in vanilla HTML
Sure, I can 'develop' .com and .org - it's called DNS; the real migration is refactoring the org chart
Boss: "You're a .NET dev - can you build .com and .org too?" Me: "Absolutely - right after we decouple requirements from DNS and get a wildcard cert for expectations."
And you also can make www sites, yes, YES? Comment deleted
