AWS Is Down. Can We Improve the 503 UI?
Description
A text-plus-still meme. Caption: "Me: AWS is down and everything is showing a 503 error screen. Manager: Can we improve the UI of the error screen? Me:" Below is a red-lit still from Pixar's Coco: a shocked, round-faced uncle stares at someone off-left with wide eyes and a worried mouth; a CRT television, stacked cases, wallpaper, and a black cat figurine sit in the background. HTTP 503 means Service Unavailable, i.e. the origin or a dependency is dead. Posted on July 24, 2026, the same day as a real AWS us-west-2 connectivity outage, the joke is the manager pivoting from a regional cloud failure to a cosmetic ticket on the error page—the one surface the team still controls and the one that cannot fix the outage.

The 503 is already the UI. Asking to restyle it during an AWS outage is decorating the blast radius.
