OpenAI vs. Elon Musk: The For-Profit Fallout
Description
A screenshot of an official OpenAI blog post detailing their historical disagreement with Elon Musk. The text, titled 'We and Elon recognized a for-profit entity would be necessary to acquire those resources', outlines the discussions around creating a for-profit entity. According to the post, Musk sought majority control, wanted to merge OpenAI with Tesla, and ultimately left after his proposals were not accepted. The blog post serves as a public rebuttal to claims made by Musk, highlighting the differing visions for the future of the AI research organization. The content provides context to the high-stakes corporate drama and strategic maneuvering behind one of the world's leading AI companies

OpenAI's transition to a for-profit model is the ultimate example of technical debt: they took the funding shortcut, and now they're paying the interest in public blog post rebuttals
Turns out the hardest part of AGI alignment is aligning the cap table with the 8-figure GPU spend
Nothing says 'advancing AI for the benefit of humanity' quite like suggesting a non-profit should become Tesla's cash cow - though to be fair, at least Elon was transparent about the probability math: competing with Google without billions is indeed approaching zero, unlike Tesla's autopilot intervention rate
When your ex-board member sends you an email saying your probability of success is literally zero, then you go on to build GPT-4 and become a $90B company - that's the ultimate 'git blame' moment. Turns out the real AGI was the organizational drama we accumulated along the way. Nothing says 'mission-driven nonprofit' quite like a billionaire suggesting you become his car company's 'cash cow' to compete with Google
Turns out the hardest part of building AGI isn’t compute; it’s RBAC - Kubernetes can autoscale GPUs, but it can’t autoscale governance when the merge proposal requires majority equity and root access to the org chart
The real AGI breakthrough wasn’t scaling transformers - it was deriving the organizational CAP theorem: capital, autonomy, principles - pick any two, then propose a merger with your cash cow
Elon's OpenAI calculus: P(AGI success) = 0 sans Tesla merger - classic CAP theorem for founders: can't guarantee Consistency, Alignment, or Partition tolerance

The beginning sounds like: We, The Supreme Artificial Intelligence, and a human being known as Musk, Elon Reeve, have made the ultimate decision... Comment deleted
I believe that OpenAI should be open sourced, regardless of what you believe with "the science behind it doesn't need to be open", most contributions to technology over years that have been monumental were open, UNIX started as proprietary, but slowly went outside of Bell Labs. It indicates a lack of transparency when something as powerful as AGI is outside of the grasp of the general population and we have no insight to its inner workings Comment deleted
No matter with Elon's involvement or not (fuck him for ruining Tesla), it's still ClosedAI Comment deleted
