AI Art Generator Website Telling Artists to Stop Drawing and Save the Planet
Description
A screenshot of an AI art generator website with a clean white/light UI design. The header shows a heart-shaped logo with pixel elements, navigation items (Pricing, Tools, notifications bell, login button). The main headline reads 'Free AI Art Generator' followed by the tagline with a plant emoji: 'Don't draw -- use AI. Save the planet: eco-friendly tech. Imagine: you create a stunning masterpiece by throwing 2-3 words to AI. It's not SciFi anymore. Our new tool can do it for free. FAQ'. Below are tabs for 'Generate image' and 'Generate video', a style selector showing 'Any Style', a text input with placeholder 'Summer evening', an '+ Add image' button, and a prominent purple 'Generate for free' button. A small cute robot mascot character appears on the right side. The audacity of claiming AI art generation is eco-friendly while running massive GPU clusters is peak irony

'Save the planet by using AI' says the company whose inference cluster draws more power than a small country -- but hey, at least the artists are unemployed now, so they're not commuting

kW is already power, kW/h rarely mean anything as a unit. Then for the energy/TDP, the proper unit is kWh Comment deleted
kW/h is the speed of building power stations Comment deleted
The only use I know is for gradient of grid capability. Comment deleted
tbf we live in a day and age where IEEE publication uses wrong units widely varying storage capacities—including 100 MW and 1,000 MW https://spectrum.ieee.org/co2-battery-energy-storage Comment deleted
ah, yes. I've noticed things like that before. especially in papers released by countries with imperial units Comment deleted
And what's the imperial unit for Wh? Calories (meaning kcal)? Comment deleted
as far as I know Watt was a brit, so it's imperial unit, which surprisingly well fits into metric system. I think the cause is a brain damage caused by imperial units, which stops people from understanding what units are, and instead makes them just remembering them. so if one remembers it wrongly he has no way to cross check whether that even makes sense. To remember there are 5,280 feet in a mile, use the mnemonic "Five Tomatoes" (Five-Two-Eight-Oh) or chunk the number into 5 and 280, visualizing a 1/4 mile track (1,320 ft) multiplied by four, or compare it to football fields (about 360 ft each) for chunking. Comment deleted
and you, a European, be like — dude. what the fuck? Comment deleted

I will add it to posting schedule 😄 Comment deleted
extra note: that article was written by the "power and energy editor" of IEEE Spectrum magazine. Comment deleted

use eco-friendly plastic bags - no more cutting down trees for paper bags Comment deleted

Ironically wouldn't be that bad here except they simply do it anyway but now with extra plastic Comment deleted

Do the same thing for power consumption and water consumption per image now Comment deleted
You've missed a massive sarcasm in the graph. Comment deleted
No I didn't Comment deleted
Then why you ask for the same graphs with different header?) Comment deleted
I didn't, they're different graphs Comment deleted
You clearly didn't get the sarcasm. Comment deleted
Clearly you don't own an air fryer Comment deleted
That’s co2 Human gonna spend more, like, there’s nothing to even talk about and co2 here acts as nice proxy in way similar to why people calculate calories (I hate entire concept of calories in diet but welp) Comment deleted
I read that study, albeit on my phone, and it felt really naive at best and just wrong at worst. I'm pretty sure is the same one Comment deleted
Also they made another one for text :) Comment deleted
The only way to become 100 % eco-friendly is to kill yourself [before any self-replication]. Comment deleted
that litters though Comment deleted
Your body will be consumed by worms and bacteria in a very short period of time. Comment deleted
Only if it's not properly disposed Comment deleted
ai will eventually resolve all major ecology problems and save the planet. unfortunately for us, top1 ecology problem is people. Comment deleted
the biggest long term problem for ecology is gravity 🌞 Comment deleted
You can't just turn off gravity. Comment deleted
Thus AI can't solve ALL major problems Comment deleted
Fair enough Comment deleted
The training needs to be included though, and the training of the next generations of models, each one more intensive than the last it would seem Comment deleted
